I have a '99 773 G that cranks and blows smoke but the starter turns off after 5 seconds. Have tried to start it several times with the same result. Is there a sensor or controller that might be at fault. Thanks for your consideration.

I've got a 863 that is doing the exact same thing. If I spray starter fluid in the intake it will start & run just perfect. I still have not figured it out.

I would check the relay.for the starter. Also you could try bypass starting it at the starter

To: mmsllc &farmshop &7LBSSMALLIE First I want to apologize for my absence in acknowledging your replies, I have no good excuse other than I became distracted by some charity work, traveling to a wedding, garden duties and keeping our property operating. For your time and effort, you deserve better. I purchased this 773G at an auction. It was a rental & had to be lifted with a forklift onto a trailer. Engine had dropped a glow plug tip into #1 Cyl and chewed it up good. Pulled eng, new oil pump, filters, starter, sensors, muffler, battery, alternator & honed cyl's. Steel and Hydraulics in good shape. Electrical very intermittent & giving me fits. Previous owner bypassed controller with single 14 gauge wire direct from battery to 1 relay to operate Hyd brake lock, bucket position, lift & tilt locks, front Rod & Base Hyd & parking brake. I ripped all that out, installed factory intent per schematic and eliminated 12 splices and all 8 error codes. Then it cranked, blew smoke and the seat bar light even worked. But still wouldn't turnover. Then I blundered, I attempted to tighten + battery cable (WITHOUT DISC. NEG 1ST) and lit up the wrench on contact with steel hyd line. (I am better than that). So that blew my hope of doing voltage drop check on the batt. Cables. Anyway, now nothing happens when I turn the key. I get a faint message in L. control panel "input" & the frt /back lites & horn work, but no panel lights . Have checked fuses/relays, voltage to all…..continuity of Grounds. Battery @13.14V. Wondering if I shorted the Controller?? Thank you in advance if you are still out there. Bobwhacked1

probally not sensor but wiring to it.
