Didn't think of that Ken that some 843's had the Isuzu , thought it wasn't till 853 that they used the Isuzu , the break of 843v s/n is 24001 and up is Isuzu 54 hp 2700 rpm's and 843 and 843 B s/n 13001-23999 is Perkins 2600 rpms 54 hp ---------when did they quite making the 843 , I 'd guess around 1985 or so -----------------to answer your question Ken the 853 and 853 H used the Isuzu 4JB1-PK03 58hp 2700 rpm's the 843 used the PK01 version

The maximum speed should be factory set so you can't over rev them unless you do something silly. The idle speed should be set too. My Kubota is set to i think 2,800 max and 800 idle. Most diesel engines used in skid steers should be around this speed range and shouldn't need adjusting unless you install a new injector pump. Even then it should be very close.
