Hello, trying to fix my parking brake on my 1988 743. I've taken off every visible bolt on the park brake cover and the thing won't lift out. The back of the cover slides under the hydraulic pump and seems to be stuck there. Do I really have to undo the entire hydraulic pump just to take the cover off to see my brakes? I've looked for hours online and Noone shows how to take the cover off just when it's already out. Please help I'm going insane

No one has ever taken their brake cover off??
It’s been a long time since I had one of those off. And it also depends on what serial number your machine is. It could have 1 or 2 disks.

Take a look at the brake schematic in the parts catalog for your specific machine:

There is also a slim chance that the pads wore down into the disk, happens on cars all the time, and the pads could be catching on the disk(s).

Thanks for the reply. I didn't hear back from anyone so just kept talking parts off until I had access. What a dumb design had to take all steering linkage and levers off aswell as the front half of the hydraulic pump and brackets. Just to pull the inspection cover off! It has 2 disc's and I can't really see anything wrong, everything moves as it should. I'm guessing I need new brass pucks so it clamps the disc's more. Wish I never got into this and just adjusted the creep instead. At this point I could easily replace the hydraulic pump I have so much stuff removed. Guess I'll change out the chain case oil while I'm in here..

I know that design sucks, thats why they put in later models the engine and the pumps sideways. Yes you needed now a drive belt, but everything was better to reach. And the drive belt was basically a fuse between engine and pumps.

Is what it is I guess. I cleaned out all the oil and can get a much better look now. It seems as though when I engage the lever it is only clamping one of the disc's. Not sure how only one puck would wear out and not the other? I found 2 different part numbers and they both look the same but different prices. They also have a hole in the middle of the pucks which mine don't have. Are these the correct part numbers?
PUCK (6557747)
INSERT (6558659)
