Hello, new member here. I have purchased a used but well maintained 843 skidsteer. I have used it for about 2 weeks and am very happy with it. However, the other day the left foot/elevator pedal got stuck. It will not move at all, even with engine off. I think there might be some linkage problems as just before it got good and stuck, it was very stiff for a few seconds. No noises or fluid leaks. Tilt works fine. With the engine off, when you try to move the pedal there is a metalic knocking noise from under the seat area. Any ideas?

Which way is it stuck? forward? if you push your toe all the way forward it will engage float mode. This allows the arms to lift and lower to go over bumpy ground when grading. It should be rather tight when its in this position to get it to pop out. The springs and balls may have popped out of place too and locked it in place.

Thanks for replying, I didn't know about the float feature. The pedal is stuck in the neutral position. When it locked up, the bucket was only a foot or two off the ground and settled to the bottom slowly. (about 10 seconds). Hope that helps and ty for your help.

Your best bet is to lift the cab and have a look to start with, see if its obvious or not. If you can't see it still, it could be a broken spring on balls in the control block.

Great! Thank you for the info and help. I was looking into what you told me about the "float mode" and discovered the pedal bolt rubbing up against the frame. Apparently the bushings wore allowing the bolt to slide over enough to make contact. I couldn't figure out what you are talking about with the float mode though. Guess I will experiment with it a little and or try to find operators manual online. Thank you again for helping me solve this prob....:)

Also, I meant to ask someone if they know what the electrical box that is behind my left elbow while operating the machine is. It has a stitch and dial reostat. The former owner had no idea what it was. thanks.

This may be related to the same pedal. Just got a used 843, upgraded from a 610. When I raise the bucket or forks it keeps its level as it goes up, but when I then lower it, it tilts forward and I have to constantly readjust the angle to keep things from falling or sliding off. Sounds like maybe it's gotten into float mode, but it seems to be the only way I can lower it. Toe operation is not smooth. Can someone tell me how this is supposed to work so that I know what I'm trying to accomplish. Thanks.

first the ..float ..if you push the pedal with your toe all the way down the boom goes down if you push down sharply the pedal will stay down in the float position ..the valve has a detent to hold the pedal down ..the boom will .."float " up and down with the ground you are grading the valve is open both ways so the boom can go up and down freely . i usually use this in reverse with the bucket edge tilted down quite a bit to spread material . the second thing is bucket positioning ..the idea is for the bucket to stay in the same relative position while raising it to load trucks .this feature does not work while lowering the bucket . my 843 was a little too fast on the curl for me so i was able to defeat the bucket positioning for the first first 3 or 4 feet of lift by pressing the curl pedal while i lifted the bucket after that i let the curl pedal go neutral and continued raising ..this help keep you from dumping stuff into your lap while loading material ..
