im having a overheating issue on my 753 and i think its due to the fan belt/tensioner. with throttle, it will overheat but at idle will slowly cool down. the tensioner moves like its working properly but in my opinion seems loose. is there a way to check for proper tension?

The water pump is driven off the alternator belt and is adjusted by loosening the alternator mounting bolts, pulling the alternator until belt is tight and tighten bolts. The belt with the tensioner is the main drive belt and should be tight also.
Have you checked if there is debris clogging the radiator fins and that the cooling fan is working.

ive cleaned everything out of the radiator and oil cooler. i believe the fan is working properly, i can feel it blowing air out of both sides of the machine. so from the sounds of it, what i thought was a faulty tensioner on the alt belt is just some sort of spring loaded idler? as it is right now, i have about 2 inches of slack in the belt. i'll try and tighten it up tonight or tomorrow then test it out. is that a standard belt available at any autopart stores or only through a bobcat dealer?

The service info I have for the 753 doesn't show a tensioner on the alternator belt only on the main drive belt that drives the hydrostatis/hydraulic pumps.

im sorry, i had my belts mixed up. the alt belt is tight as well as the main belt. the fan belt has about 2 inches of play in it. im going to replace the alt belt anyways because it looks pretty old. but for the fan belt, how tight should it be?

That belt is tensioned by the idler/tension pulley. If its been awhile since it's been greased it may not be applying the proper tension. The belt could also be stretched.

While you're there you should check the oil level in the gearbox
