I'm thinking something is not right with ignition in the 743 serial 29xxx I just bought. I am wondering what the detents are? On my switch when I turn it counterclockwise, it will snap back to the middle position when released. Incidentally, my glow plugs don't preheat in this position, I have to jumper them at the back. If I turn the key clockwise one stop it engages the starter, but will not snap back - probably explains the new starter in the machine, courtesy of the previous owner. The key only comes out in the middle position only. Secondly, from the service manual it appears the labels on the terminals on the back of the switch are supposed to be SO,I,ST,B. What I have is BAT, ACC, IGN, ST. I think this is just rigged in here and should be replaced. I will be sorting out the rats nest of wiring, it is all messed up, but I want to start at the ignition switch. Oh yah, the hour meter is disc. and I have no indication on any instruments/warning lights.
