Hello I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone could help with my hydraulics whining. When I start the skidsteer and let it either idle or turn while moving, the pump seems to whine really loud, also the controls seem jumpy to me, maybe this is normal with this machine, I don't know because I just purchased it and replaced the motor from a Fiesa. (By the way if anyone needs info on that project please ask). I also noticed that it wants to steer to the left when both sticks are moved forward. I seem to have 3/4's level of hydraulic fluid so I can't see that as an issue. Is there any adjustments? If I move one stick just the slightest bit at idle the noise goes away. Silly question but would adjusting the parking brake and adjusting the sticks help (if that is even possible to adjust the sticks). Not sure what to do on this. I have a 1983 with a pump that has one big hose coming out of the top so i'm guessing I don't have a in line filter. Where should I drain the hydraulic oil from when I change it out for new stuff even though this doesn't look dirty? Thanks and p.s. I love the education I am getting from this web site !!!

If you have the big hose on the pump its the newer style, no hidden filter. The steering is simply adjustments, over time motors will wear a little so in long runs it may pull to one side, don't be too worried, easy to correct with pulling back on a stick.
It is normal to jump around if you are on hard sticky surfaces. On dirt moving slowly it should be fine. What revs are you running? you should be running at least 1/2 throttle, the higher the better to an extent. The hydraulics will groan when you are running low as its a vane pump, the vanes will not have fully spun out and it makes things jitter, also causes pump damage as they are designed to run 2-3000 RPM. Gear pumps will run at any speed, vane pumps will not.

sounds like you need to adjust your steering levers, will the parking hold the machine from moving? you release the brake the machine moves an the whining gets quieter?

Tazza, what kind of a pump does the S175 (2007) have in it? Gear or vane? Thanks!

I think they are all gear now.
Thanks for the replies guys. I've been away for a while but back to working on the Bobcat. About the whinning, i noticed it makes the noise at any rpm and will only stop if I move the sticks but when i do the skidsteer will creep so I don't know if adjusting it will solve the problems. I changed the oil and filter thinking that may solve the issue but it doesn't. As for the parking brake, it looks like it is at the end of its adjustment so i will have to take it apart and see how to gain some additional adjustment so to answer your question about it stopping when the p brake is on, i will need to dive into that. Any more thoughts? Also is changing the chain case fluid difficult on this machine? Also I syphined the fluid from the hydo tank should I have gotten more out in some other way? I'm all ears. Thanks, Mike

You did the rite thing for the hydro tank, you could have removed a hose, but as long as you got most out its ok.
The chani case is a bit of a pain, you need to remove the front inspection plate where the park brake pedal sits. You drain the oil from here, you then mop the grime out with rags then re-fill so oil just stars to come out of the 1" plug on the front (while sitting on level ground). Ensure you re-seal the cover as this is where water gets in.
It sounds like it could be a neutral adjustment problem, the hydro's always make noises, but hard to say if yours is a BAD noise or normal operating sounds.
