530 Flywheel Magnets

I have a Bobcat 530 skid loader with a Kohler engine. It is not charging the battery, so I checked the voltage out of the stator. It's 14 volts AC. The manual says it should be 28+ V AC. So I removed the flywheel and one of the magnets was stuck to the stator. I haven't ever delth with stators/magnets on a flywheel before. How do they attach? I did some research and understand that there is a North pole and either end and a South in the middle or could be visa versa. But anyhow, you have to alternate them to get AC voltage. I just don't know if the magnets just hold themselvs there or if they are glued/bonded in? Thanks Chris

What Koher engine is it? I have the service manuals for almost all the Kohlers I can try to find some info if you know the engine model.

Yes, every magnet has a north and south pole, you may be able to use exoxy glue to re-attach the magnets to the fly wheel. I don't think you have to have the poles in the correct direction as the power is generated as the magnet enters and leavs the coil, i'm pretty sure its not fussy.

It's a K582 engine. I pulled the magnets out of the flywheel and the cleaned the inside bore as well as the magnets themselves. Then I put them all in the same way they came out. There was a yellow mark in the middle of the magnets that faces out. I just spaced them evelnly. Put the flywheel back on and I have 28+ V AC at high idle. Before it was 14. The ampmeter shows that the system is now charging. So hopefully that fixed it. Let me know if I should glue those magnets down with something. Right now they are just magnetically sticking to the flywheel. Thanks Chris

I would use some high temp epoxy to hold them in place. Here's a link to the service manual for your engine.

J-B Weld is a pretty durable epoxy for something like that. Any auto parts store has it.
