04 Cat 257b help!

hi new to the site! I just bought a caterpillar 257b about 2 months ago works great love the machine i notice that my cooling fan was leaking alittle bit has anyone on here had this problem and is there something i should know before taking it a part. So far i have the fan off and its leaking from the top is there a seal there that could be leaking??

I assume you are talking about a hydraulic motor that runs the fan? It will have a shaft seal, hopefully thats all it will be. You m ention the top, this is whre the shaft is? could it be as simple as an O ring on a fitting? or a loose fitting?

yea I ended up buying both seals are they hard to change? I checked all the bolts there tight so im not sure why its leaking my guess is the seal.

They should be easy to change, there isn't much to a hydraulic motor. Just keep it clean! use lots of oil when you assemble it. Make sure the shaft seals go in the correct way around, take notes as you remove them.
