Big snow chains on front tires only: is there slip between front and back wheels to allow for the now larger dia front tire?

This is all good information. Thank you for the responses.I noticed a "clattery" feeling through one of the handles while turning. This is what was making me wonder if I was not getting the needed slip between the chained rear and unchained front wheel on that side. I may not have been fully...

Big snow chains on front tires only: is there slip between front and back wheels to allow for the now larger dia front tire?

I put together a set of monster snow chains for my 743B, 1/4 inch standard chain on every second side link. They seem to functionally make the tire larger. Question: is there enough slip between the front and back axles to allow a slight difference in wheel size? Should I be concerned about...

    743 u joint greasing?

Did the universal joint zircs on my 743B last week. Here is the picture to prove it. The Lock N Lube tip really helped. Digital camera was also useful to confirm that I'd gotten the tip onto the zirc I was trying for. Appreciate KarlB's decade old picture of the joint removed from the machine...

Is there a breather vent on a 743B chaincase?

Curious. The forward access plate is directly beneath the parking brake foot pedal on my 743B. Had it off a few weeks ago when I changed the chaincase lubricant. No vent in the plate or nearby. Page three in the 743 parts manual has a schematic that shows something called a breather, (p/n...

Is there a breather vent on a 743B chaincase?

I'd like to do an aggressive pressure washing of the top of chaincase beneath the pump. Is there a vent tube or breather in this area that I'll need to block off, or avoid all together? Thanks in advance.

    743B parking brake

Similar experience as foton w/my 743B. There was no place on the rod for a wrench to secure it while torque is applied to the nut. I put a big set of Vise-Grips on the rod, then Kroil around the nut. Waited a few hours, applied torque, warmed it slightly with a torch, then put on more Kroil...

Thanks for the lesson regarding indirect injection. New glow plugs made all the difference. Runs like a champ. Thanks.

What hydraulic oil in Melroe Bobcat?

Getting ready to swap out the unknown hydraulic fluid in my 743b for 10w30 oil. Current fluid appears greenish-clear. Questions...Planning to pump out the reservoir, swap the old filter for a new one (prime the new one with fluid first) and then refill the reservoir with 10w30. Is there anything...

What hydraulic oil in Melroe Bobcat?

A-mazing.I thought for sure there would be a hydraulic fluid of some sort which would be a step down from the expensive Bobcat hydraulic/hydrostatic fluid, (PN 6904026) and yet not quite the "in a pinch" 10w30 motor oil. My impression is that motor oil is engineered for one purpose and hydraulic...

What hydraulic oil in Melroe Bobcat?

What hydraulic oil are you using in your older Melroe Bobcats? I have a 743 and am considering going with NAPA Premium AW32 Hydraulic Oil. Thanks in advance.

743B starting at zero degrees Fahrenheit

Thanks for your insight.Part of the problem may have been that it had lower 48 summer diesel that was gelling, in addition to possible moisture (ice) in the fuel. All the fuel will be replaced w/fresh stuff, as well as lubricants with appropriate viscosity for this latitude and season. Best regards.
