I have just purchased a Bobcat 722 and it runs very well and goes straight forward and back very well but when you try to turn, it almost stalls motor and does not want to turn very much at all.Almost like putting something in forward and reverse at the same time.I had a hard time getting it on the trailer.I would really appreciate any help you can give me.I bought this at auction and we could not test drive it so I did not know it had this problem or would not have bought it.This is my first Bobcat.Thanks. P.S. -Also it has a lever that says REAR HYDRAULICS what is that used for and where is the access?

How does the lift and tilt work? It could be that the aux. hydraulics are engaged, that would be the pedal between the lift and tilt, or perhaps the rear lever. If you have front aux. couplers, the rear lever could be a diverter that sends the circuit to the back, where couplers could be in the engine bay, or capped off if it had outriggers that were removed. Aux. hydraulics would be the first thing to check, if they are deadheading that puts quite a load on the system. If that's not the problem, it's probably in the carb. / governor that won't let it recover when a load is introduced. If you have to roll in the power slowly to keep it from bogging down, it's probably a carb issue. The crap they pass off for gasoline these days wreaks havoc on older fuel systems, maybe a treatment with Seafoam and Marvel Mystery oil is worth a try before taking things apart.

The lift and tilt work great.Everything works super until you try to turn and then it acts like the hydraulics are fighting themselves.Thanks.

I am having the same problem with my M-700, I had the carb freshly rebuilt, new hydraulic fluid and filters put in it, fuel filter, and fuel lines to the tank. It does fine moving forward and backwards without a load, and with the lift and tilt but turning just about takes all its got. The engine itself runs fine by itself. Any help into fixing the problem or where to look is appreciated.

What happens if you push up against a non movable object? Does the pump squeal badly or does the engine just bog down?
It could be low compression or the govenor is not set right. When the load increases the govenor should give more fuel, if it's not right it will just bog down and stall.

Man!! I'm starting to think that these older (& smaller) machines were underpowered from the day they were made!! Is that a good assumption based on how many guys are asking the same basic question about no having enough power / stalling out problems?? Is that a huge factor as why they went to KUBOTA & DUETZ engines?? I am thinking that in these older gasoline engines, a compression check is in order. If that checks out, then a new carb or rebuilt carb from a reman supplier would fix these sort of issues. What is the maintenance interval look like on this machine? Has it been cared for?? Or simply kept in under a lean-to & seldom used??

I don't think they were under powered, it is just time and wear that makes them lazy. Some are running engines 30+ years old, so wear isn't unreasonable.

What did you do to fix it? Some one before you might have put it together wrong. IE wiring to solenoids or hydraulic lines crossed. I read about a guy that took his in to get some leaks fixed and then it was hard to turn. I never heard what he found out why.

Set your timing . It needs to be set at above 1800 RPM . on the back of the little stub of a crankshaft is a mark and if i remember correctly maybe a dot on the case . I just did a 700 . Google it and if your going to run old gas engines you need a timing light . Harbor Freight has a cheapy . I rebuild VH4D Wisconsin and I see broken top ring lands from the timing to far advanced .
