Well, I got the S250 I was looking at, I am happy with it so far but got a question about the keyless start. It seems there are more and more stuff getting stolen around here, including skid steers, just wondering if there is anything else I should look at doing to it so it can't get stole. Or is the keyless start pretty much the best bet for this? Thanks.

A keyless start panel will cost you..... If someone wants your machine more than you do, they will get it, you can only slow them down.

Sorry, guess I should of been more clear. It already has the keyless panel in it.

On a jobsite we back our skid loaders against another piece of heavy equipment making opening the rear door impossible. Backing up against anything will work as well. When there was some road construction going on by the local bobcat dealer. They were forced to take down part of their security fence. It wasn't long before a machine was taken one night. After that, the dealer removed the 100 amp fuse from each machine, and put them in as needed. The trouble with that is anyone that knows bobcats can get past that easily. Id say a keyless entry and backing against something would be pretty safe.

The keyless start is a good first step. Change user preference to owner password start. You will have to use it every time to start. All bobcats use the same key, so if somebody knows that, simply locking the door is pointless. Keyless with the password will render the machine dead to anyone but you. Yes it can be still dragged on a trailer, but S250 are big enough it makes it work to do so. Also unless the criminal is a bobcat chopshop, he can not get it started without doing things. I won't go into how the system work for all world to see. Somebody wants it bad enough, nothing short of you sitting in with a .45 is going to stop them, but keyless is a good start, especially if it isn't in an easy to tow away spot.

Thanks Dan, makes me feel better about it. I live in Canada and I wish I could use a .45 to protect it without going to jail!

So is the S250 proving to be a good buy?
I just picked it up yesterday, and used it for a hour at the house moving snow and I am very happy with it so far other than the paint looking like crap! It sure puts the 743 to shame that I looked at earlier! Glad I listened to you Dan, Thanks again!
