So this morning it counted to 11 before being ready to start (not surprising since it was close to -30 last night). Started fine but allowed me to rev up to about 2800 and then started to hesitate. Throttled down to about 1200 and hesitation subsided. Raised back up to 2500 and it started again. backed off and ran at min throttle. Idles fine. Any thoughts

Could be ice in your fuel filter, i assume you are running winter fuel or additive?

there's an additive in the fuel. Should I have put more in than they said to? should I get it into the warm and allow it to thaw out and try it again? I shouldn't have to with the additive I thought. Will move it into the garage after dinner. Thaw it over night with a heater.

It's not a bad idea getting it somewhere warm, then you know if it is the issue.

ok so went to try to run the machine today and this is what happened. Started fine, ran for about 20min while I was clearing the snow and then died. started it up again and it ran for about 20sec and then died again.. There were lights lit up on the control panel. one was red and was an oil drop inside a gear . the other was an the left side and was the word stop inside a round outline. I've checked what I know how to but am at a loss???? any ideas

Is your engine oil level good?
It's possible the sender is bad too, making the computer think it's lost oil pressure and shutting down to save the engine.
This is one for Mike10, i'm sure he'll know

The gear with an oil drop inside is for the hydrostat charge pressure. If it does not see the correct oil pressure the system will shut the engine down in @ 30 seconds. Remove the right engine side panel and look just below the hydraulic filter. You should see a oil pressure sender sticking straight out at you. It has two wires attached to it. Replace this sender and that should take care of that problem. I am assuming the hydraulics, boom and bucket, were working when this happened and the unit would move.

Mike10, you were right on the money with your diagnosis. I did as you instructed and noticed that there was a bad connection to this sending unit. It seems that one of the screws had almost shaken itself loose. The wire was just holding. I removed the wires, cleaned the connections and reinstalled. Now she runs like the day she was bought. Thank you very much for your help.
