I'm concerned about buying a skid steer which may have had the meter disconnected or tampered with! Any info would be appreciated!

I believe on new machines, the only way to do this is to replace the computer, as this is where its all stored. The dealer has the ability to change it with their *special* laptop but by law i can't see them doing it.

if you install a new ecm, the hours may differ from whats on the hour meter. i havnt took the time to see if you can sync the new ecm with the hour meter. you need to check with your local dealer and have him do a repair history on the machine you are interested in. they should have it on record. we do at the dealer i work for. dont buy a "paint job" look beyond the shiny new paint and concentrate on wear points such as loader frame pivot points, cylinder leakage, etc. for about 10.00, you can sample the engine oil to check for wear provided it is not fresh oil. good luck.
