Anybody have a bobcat 642 or 742 that they could snap a few good pics of the engine compartment for me? Im having trouble figuring out how all the pieces go back together on this thing..( bought it in pieces) I know how the major parts go together, its just the wiring and the vacum line etc.. Anybody know where i can find a pdf of the parts manual also? I have the sevice manual but the pics dont help that much as to how to put it back together Thanks Much

email the moderator OldMachinist.
The only vacuum line is the one from the intake manifold to the distributor. If the wiring harness is intact there should be a wire to the fuel feed line solenoid, the carburetor fuel solenoid, the oil pressure switch, two wires to the coil primary, a flat plug and a larger wire with a loop to the alternator, the main power wire to the starter solenoid along with the positive battery cable and a small wire (or two small wires) to the starter solenoid. The second wire will apply 12v. to the coil while cranking. One more wire goes to the engine water temperature gage sending unit. Be sure the two harness plugs in the cab by your left hip are good, not frayed. You may need to ty-wrap them together after you lower the cab to not have problems. Get new 2 gage battery cables, positive and ground. The starter draws lots of current. Take the back off of the starter and verify you have good brushes and clean out the copper dust. It conducts a lot of current to ground. Many machines have a solenoid that powers the starter-mounted solenoid. It is on the left as you look in the rear door. OldMachinist should be able to provide a link for getting a wiring diagram which will make my over long post make sense. GL
