I BROKE AND REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR BELT ON MY 642B WITH A GAS, MITS ENGINE. WHEN IT BROKE, THE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER REPLACING THE BELT, IT'S STILL ON. SUGGESTIONS?

(if memory serves) most idiot lights for alternators get a 12 volt + feed from turning on the key, and are grounded to the "field or fld" terminal on the alternator. When the alternator begins to charge the field becomes 12v + and the light goes out because it has to have a neg to "ground" or complete the circuit.
Perhaps you pinched that wire or somehow it is getting a ground that it should'nt. Check the field terminal on the alt to see if it will provide a ground for your test light and that it supplies + power when the engine runs.
Good luck
Ken
