Stalling problem

Hi I am new to this forum but I have a question. I just got an old Melroe skid steer that stalls if I try to make a sharp turn by going forward on one stick and backward on the other. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this. Also does anyone know how much hydraulic fluid it holds. I have no manual. Thanks, Jack

What kind of revs are you doing? when turning you are putting the machine under some pretty big strain and you need the engine at a decent speed so it won't stall on you. I usually run my machine at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, i run it flat out when I'm doing something hard.

Oh, it sounds like your engine may be a little sad then. You may want to check compression and blow-by. Does it blow smoke? If its petrol, it could need a tune up or plugs/leads. If its diesel it may need the injectors cleaning.
What model machine and what engine does it have?

Thanks Again Tazz, I will have to get back to you on that info as I just got it and have no clue. It runs fine and no problems with bucket functions. I may tune it up tomorrow and see if that helps. Thanks again, Jack

Also, what surface are you running on? If you try and turn quickly on a sticky surface like asphalt or grippy concrete you will know it when you try and turn. On dirt you should be ok though. Check the colour of the smoke when its under load. Does it start easily?

Also if its a older gas powered loader you may want to check the function of the governor to be sure it throttles the motor up when the load on the engine increases.
