I just want to pass this on as I found it helpful. To adjust the steering lever neurals, jack and place the machine on four jackstands under each axel. Place a block under the rear frame to prevent rearward tip over. Start loader , raise lift aarms and put in the support. Let it idle, release the parking brake and observe which way each side is trying to turn, Move the steering levers back and forth a few times and see if they center with the wheels for each side moving the same direction and speed. If you get different speeds or directions you likely need new parts or something is loose with the centering hardware. If the movement duplicates itself every time, then go ahead with the adjustment procedure. With this method I found it alot easier to see if I had the setting just right, as the wheels coud turn without resistance if not centered properly. Just be careful of the wheels. If anyone else has any further tips, I' all ears... Thanks Ken

Thats what my manual says, it says to block the loader and raise the ROPS, remove the steering linkages at the pump and levers to give room. Then you start at the back adjusting the steering cams and stop plates untill the wheels stop moving.
It can be a nightmare to get rite

Tell me about it. I have spent countless hours adjusting my 743B trying to get it just right. I finally got it pretty close and said "good enough". BTW Tazza, mine occasionally makes that same sound yours does. I can generally move the lever and make it stop.

a local tech told me on for my 553 as the parts wear the levers get harder to set and at some point it's time for some new parts. Some pieces can just be flipped over though. Ken

Yeah, the "stop" or whatever they call them can be flipped, but the cam's can't.
Goodtech told me that if the cams have any flat spots on them it will compound the problem, so i think i need to invest in a new set of "cams" but i bet they will want far too much for pieces of round with holes in them! i can make them myself easily, but they are hardened.... I may try making some out of mild steel and try it, if they do indeed fix the problem i can always get some ones later.
I will add it to my shopping list i guess, my list of spares is horrid, i am expecting at least 1K for little odds and ends. THEN i need a $500 fan housing for the engine bay, the old one didn't like the fire much....

I'm not sure if any one in .au wrecks bobcats or not. Either way, i got a blower housing last week. I was going to make one out of tin or aloy plate but i didn't have a good one to copy, so i just had to buy it.

Suppose freight on something that bulky to au. would be a killer to? Are bobcats or any other skidloaders common or hard to find in Au.? In the Us they are every where, and still in high demand, In Ca they are not so common and mostly represented by Bob, case, NH and deere. Demand has kept $$ high compared to farm loaders. Anything that can be rebuilt is. Ken

Yeah, freight would be a killer!
Bobcats are still pretty common over here still, a good 743 goes for around 12-14K.
*most* skid steers you see ar Bobcat around here, but you do see a few Toyota husky's then case and i have seen 1 or to John Deere machines. Bobcat do dominate the market over here, their service is second to none, as it seems to be world wide.
We also get as standard 4 in 1 buckets, you NEVER see machines with *standard* buckets, its 4 in 1 no matter what.

I finally got my neutral position set perfectly just last week. I started by linshing the cams to remove flat spots then surface ground both pintle bars to clean up wear. New pivot bearings, bushes and shims helped to remove a lot of slop in the levers. When actually making final adjustments to the neutral position I found that you have to completely remove the bolts that go through the the pintle levers into the steering linkages, not just loosen them as stated in the service manual. I can now start the machine with the park brake on and not have the steering levers shaking all over the place and no growling from the pumps either.

Nice work!
I remove the bolts from both ends, i then remove the linkage bars to give better access (not that it helps much). I gave it a new set of nylon bushings, and I too surface ground the steel blocks and i re-ground the cams on a grinder to get them round again (well, sorta round) but it didn't work for me....
I need to spend some serious time to get it just rite, if i start or stop it with the brake on the steering levers throw themselvs forward and stall the machine. Its all on my "to do" list.
