Hi is the pug engine fitted to your BC an xud9 engine if so check out ebay uk they are two a penny as this engine is very popular in the UK 120341114831 this number is for a stop selonoid on ebay UK for 5.00 gbp. Regards Simon
i had a peugeot car about ten years ago with an XD2 engine ,i thought i was getting bent over when they wanted 80 bucks for the solenoid. the car had a manual shut off also... for a while i used that . i took out the solenoid and removed the little shut off plug and the spring and screwed the solenoid back in ...started right up and you pulled shut off lever to kill it.
$500 USD you have got to be kidding me??? I sure hope mine never stops working....
The other place you can try is a diesel injector shop, its a Lucas pump so they should be able to get the shut off solenoid from them and not Peugeot.

It's a hard pill to swallow, but everyone I know(3) who did a Kubota conversion is still happy with his 751.

I know that part is quite expensive however, lets look at it a moment, Bobcat does not build the pump or the solenoid for the 751P, nor do they build the pump or the solenoid for the Kubota engines. But they buy many more Kubota solenoids and very few Peugeot solenoids If they tables where reversed and the Kubota was the few and not the many,Kubota would have the outrageous price. Only the 751 with the 5147XXXXX serial number and the very rare 653 had the Peugeot engine. How many Kubota enigines are used vs the Peugeot?Yes Bobcat marks up the price from the supplier just like all the manufacturers do but the price of the part starts with the manufacturer of the part, Lucus will likely have a better price based on the amount they purchase/sell. Bobcat just wants to be able to say yes we can get that part for you when you come in. I will step back from the counter when I tell you the price though.
Just for fun I checked how many of each solenoid Bobcat warehouse has, Peugeot = less than 50 Kubota more than 500.
Also, did you know that a camshaft for the Peugeot is also just over 500.00 clams?
If you havent already had to purchase one.... save up......in time you will!
Mark - OUCH my cam shaft looked pretty good actually, but i am going to need an oil pressure sender, i hope its not like the stop solenoid.... I'll be selling my first born to pay for it.
I figured that was the case, Bobcat would buy the parts Peugeot and not direct from Lucas. I also know there are way more Kubota's in bobcat's than pug engines. I like the Kubota's as parts are so cheap and easy to get, i can also get aftermarket parts for them at a great price. Pug parts, not so easy unless you live in the UK. With that said, they are an exceptional engine, they start easily and run smooth as, much smoother than a Kubota. I don't like all the coolant paths they have, hoses everywhere! Kubota has water in, water out, easy!
I'd be afraid to tell customers the price too, its a good idea to be out of range when you tell them the price
I thought about doing that but it didn't make sense to put a $9000 conversion into a $7000 machine. That was the price Bobcat quoted me for parts not including any labor.
Yeah I know. My 751 had a broken cam and head when I purchased it. I did a lot of checking around and found every way was expensive. I finally lucked up and found a practically new xud9 engine in Michigan. The engine was set up for a car and had to have the oil pan, injector pump and a few other items swapped from the original engine. I have about got everything fixed now with the exception of the shutdown solenoid and I am probably going to have to switch out the injectors. Either the injectors are not matched to the lucas pump (car engine had a bosch pump) or some of the injectors are bad as I am getting flooding and some diesel fuel in the oil. I hope switching injectors takes care of the problem. I am going to try to get it done some time this week. I put on a new timing belt because the car engine had been setting a while. When this thing is fixed I will certainly do all maintence recommended when due. Everything for this thing is rediculously expensive. I think the guy that I got my engine from has 2 more if anyone is in need.
Thanks guys for all the input. The 751 with pug engine is new territory to me. All help is appreciated. My machine seems to be in really good shape if I can get this engine thing all straightend out. I have some mechanical knowledge and ability but this thing is all new to me. Again thanks to all and keep 751 info coming.
Thanks, that is exactly what I am doing. I may just put a cable on the mechanical shut down. Too bad you don't still have your car becaus I have a bosch pump with the solenoid for a car. If you hear of anyone needing parts, I have a good xud9 engine and parts minus the head and cam.

Just called Bobcat of Houston and that part is only $437. There the cheapest place that i have found for parts and they tend to have most of them on the shelf. Great people there.

Okay so BOH is not bumping list like almost every other dealer in the US. Berry Companies, right?

Not bumping on that item currently or mis quoted, 95% of the dealers selling sell over list.
Dont get too excited about list pricing, as bobcats list price is a very thin margin to the dealerships. You know that too "thetool." No body is getting rich from list to sell.

What the hell was Bobcat smoking when they put those Puggy engines in the 751's?

I have heard of 2 or 3 reasons why they used the Puggy, 1st that engine is stronger than the kubota, 2nd Kubota couldnt supply enough engines to match machine output. And last was that someone from Peugeot had a dirty picture of some one high up at bobcat doing a sheep....(kinda weak on the last one there) I will enquire further and see if there was a reason or not. Maybe its the same reasons behind the Ford/Mitsubishi except it was a donkey in the picture.

LOL i can imagine the incriminating picture of the head bobcat guy with a sheep, or was it a goat?
The story i heard was different, i heard that Kubota decided to jack the prices up, or lower the discount they offered Bobcat. Bobcat said fine, we'll go else where and they did! Kubota came to the party next time round as they didn't think Bobcat would actually go for another engine. But as i said, its only what i heard, no idea if it was true.
As for the pug engine, they are very good. A lot of extras but very reliable. I was told they make a lot of large industrial engines too, so they know what their doing.
I still need to get hold of an upper timing cover for mine, this one was burnt off when it caught fire before i got it. I pulled the injectors down and gave them a good clean, works a treat, no smoke and starts like a dream.
