This Skid steer always worked well but just recently the right drive stopped trying to turn. Looking for ideas on a simple fix or check this and that. Chain drive.

Mine stopped on left drive(sitting in cab left side) found it to be drive pump can't really find right pump for it doesn't look fun to change

I have a Case Skid steer model 1818 Not to sure the year but a possible 1987. This Case has an Onan eng. Air cooled. All Belt driven. Two pumps a belt each. Control the right or left side with mechanical levers not electric joy sticks old style. It seems, The left side works well. The wheels will spin and only way I can turn it. Not like spinning like a top using both controls. That said, If I pull the right stick and rotate the wheels forward or backward all I get is a sluggish squeel as if I dead ended the hydraulic system. I am trying to find a go to point. Or a what to look for idea. Ran out of time where it is now so if anyone has an idea let me know.. Thanks in advance. The manual shows ROPS serial Number 177765884 and Uniloader Product ID Number as 17757432 If that helps.
The engine is called the Preformer 18HP What is hand writen down is T218G-I Spec. 10550B Not to sure when I used that or for what but it was a chanllenging early years of fixes. Anyway any help on this will be appreciated. Thanks again.

Thanks for that. Is yours a Case? I was hoping for other than what I think maybe the situation as you mentioned. Like a streched cable to the control at the valve bank. Did you have it fixed? This small case 1818 is hard to get into much less fix it. This one I have is a 1987vintage and had 300 hours on it back when I got it. The simple fact of the matter is it's kind of useless as it sits now but I can move it. I may just call the people that had it to fix her up. Time for me is the beast. No Hydrameter and all that would help but do not have that any longer.

Yes it is a case 1818 gas Onan 2 cylinder believe a 94 ,vin jaf0073470 right works bucket everything else works but left hydraulic pump behind the set makes a lot of vibration with a noise like something has failed inside, haven't had time to take apart but I'm thinking of just getting it fixed somewhere as I have alot of other things to do

Hi it's been a while and I wonder if you ever found the issue with yours and how it was fixed. Costs? Thanks

Did either of you solve your issue? This sounds like an issue with the brake pin stuck, given the "dead heading" sound.

Not yet just don't use it all the time and it is way to cold to play with it. Temps under 20 degrees doesn't help motivate me. WI. weather.

I have the same problem with a 1816c, what is the brake pin you refer to.
It sounds like the drive pump is cavitating, lots of noise in the back, even when no drive engaged and belt burns off when engaged.
Took the drive pump apart, it is in good shape, now going to cross the lines from opposite side and see if I still have the same problem in reverse to check the driven pump. Have to move the machine inside as it is now -10 C so may be awhile.

I have 18F now but not much better.

I can get you some pictures later tonight or tomorrow. This sounds like a different problem and I think the 1816 has a different brake mechanism than the 1818's.

10F here in NW Iowa. Having a heated shed really helps make these projects enjoyable! I can't imagine getting anything done if I didn't have it. ;)

Jameslmatchatti - are you familiar with how the brake system works? There are two pins, actuated by the LH lap lever, that manually lock the drive sprockets on each side. You can remove the floor to see the springs and cables running to each side. Previously, could you operate with your LH lap lever up? That would indicate something is wrong with your brake system, and I would not be surprised if the pin freed itself back to its default position locking the sprocket.

Let me know what you think,
Brandyn

Not really that familar with the brake sys. But it is good info. I had this loader for some years. It had 300 hours on it back then. Now it has 1,000. It it kept at the cabin in MI. Never had an issue with it. Until last year or so. This brake you mentioned is to hold this unit in place when out of it? What does that operate and how does it secure this unit? I don't think it will operate or move with the arms up but it's been some time since I have checked that. However now I will when it warms up some. BUT the unit moves when cold or just starting it backwards and forwards but as it heats up the right side will not pull either way. At least not a hard pull I have to feather the left side to keep it straight when moving. I thought maybe just a loose belt but doesn't appear to be. Tension seems good. I keep thinking it has a bad releaf valve and so on. I always felt the swash plates in the pump were the brake for this. A mechanical break not working the wheels would not turn or am I wrong on that. Thanks for the info either way I have things to look at with the info you gave me. Keep up on the effort with any info you may think of. It all helps. Jim

Which one is the drive pump? Or Pumps. See mine is up North sitting and I am South of it 200 miles so I don't get to that job as often as I want to. I also have the parts manual and things there so I cannot look. To cold now to play with it.
