Have a vf4d engine with a half-speed distributor. I need a new distributor rotor. I believe I have the wrong one currently in it. Does anyone know where I can get a new one, NAPA, etc and the part number. Also, I'm I correct in they didn't make an irregularly distributor cap for an odd firing engine??? They used an even spaced distributor cap with a wide rotor????? thanks

Bobcat 600 still down. Went to two NAPA stores and they have no idea what I'm talking about. Trying another approach. Since, I have a VF4 engine with an odd firing order 90°-135°-90°-45° does anyone know of Pertronic or Perlux electronic ignition cross reference. I emailed them and they too have no idea what I'm talking about. The engine is old and I have no idea when it was made or the serial number. Is it that unique of an engine????

Try these part numbers at Napa Cap # AL70 ( V08129 ) Rotor AL69 ( V09049 )
The original Wisconsin numbers are cap IG1324J rotor IG1657R
Does your distributor have a model tag still on it?

Ok, I think I know what the problem is???? It looks like I have the right dist cap and rotor, as I crossed reference them from the NAPA parts. Thanks OldMachinist. So, I was more confused until I looked at the dist cam. The lobes are at 90°-90°-90°-90°. I believe I need a dist cam with irregular lobes at 90-135-90-45 for the VF4D engine???? Now the hard part is finding one of these dist cam's. If I ever find one, I'll let you everyone know if this solves my problem. Thanks for everyones input.

Finding just the cam may be hard. Wisconsin hasn't made the VF4D since 1976. Make sure you have the firing order correct some of the manuals list the firing order as 1-4-3-2 but that is for magneto ignitions. The firing order for distributor ignitions was 1-3-4-2.

Finally fixed my firing order and found the correct cam, now the lopes fire the cylinders correctly 90-135-90-45. Got to luv these odd firing VF4 engines. But now I have another problem. Lift and tilt hydraulic cylinders are very stuttering/slow and most of the time will not extended to their full capacity. I thought maybe I had air in the lines but after running it for an hour and raising it and lowering it many times no change. I changed the hydraulic fluid and filter but nothings has changed. I have no leaks that I can see in any of the lines/hoses. So how do you know if you need a need a hydraulic valve or a pump. I'm stumped as to what it can be.

If it is just air, running it constantly for an hour won't help you. You need to run it then stop, let the bubbles settle out. Run it again a few hours or the next day.
It could be a leak allowing air in too, if you run it too long while its cavetating, you may damage the pump.

I have a 610 and last Fall I installed electronic ignition, dist cap, and rotor
I got the cap and rotor at Carquest, they looked it up. the new cap didn't fit just right, found that the clips needed to be adjusted to engage the cap sides.
the electronic ignition got off the internet, might do a search of this site and see what pops up?? Had to retime the engine but it runs great now. I also replaced the plug wires, and had to buy a V-8 set to get wires that were long enough to make it to the back of the engine.
If you need manuals let me know, send a email

Good luck

I've got the same issue. I rebuilt the MVF4D someone had put into an old Bobcat. Went to fire it up only to find the timing was always off because the engine has a 180 degree crank but the distributer cam is from a VH with a 90 cam. Where can I find the 180 distribuer cam. I've got the prestolite distributer. Looks like they had just switched the distributer and pump from the old VH onto this VF. Anyone have a part number for the cam? Thanks for any help you can provide!

This is the cam I bought and it worked for my VF4D dist. It had the correct cam lobes at 90-135-90-45. Bought the cam off ebay: (Wisconsin cam & stop for YF-10 dist. P/N 28-IAD1100LHI)

It took hours of searching to find the correct rotor for the VF4D and VE4D odd fire engines. It is Standard brand AL178. It has T shaped end on it to allow the spark to hit the terminal of the even fire 90 degree cap.
Most of the cross referenced rotors such as the AL69 are only for the 90 degree even fire engines such as VH4D. That rotor doesn't have the wide T shaped tip needed for odd fire engines. The cap is the same for either type of engine.
