I'm in the market to buy my first used bobcat. what i have planned is to use it around the house and getting side jobs grading and clearing property.my main question is what size bobcat to buy.my budget is limited to $12,000 for the unit. I'm looking at a 873 that looks to be in decent shape but do i need a big machine like this or could i get away with a smaller machine like the 773? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

A 773 will do a lot of work. The 873 is a nice machine but will need more space to maneuver and store. A bigger trailer to haul. If you are not carrying heavy loads or needing to load taller trucks the 773 is what I would look at

I have a 773, and while it was down being repaired I had to rent a new S650. It was really nice to use, but the 773 is the perfect size for close quarters work, and it is very powerful for the size. My next machine will be a lower hour 773, it's just a nice machine and reasonably easy to work on

S175 or s185 is a nice option also. Lot newer but same size

I feel the smaller sized machine is a better choice too, the big ones are great for moving lots of material fast, but for getting into tight areas, the smaller is best. The “7” series style machine are a good all rounder.
I have an S150 and an S250, the S150 gets used 95% of the time, the big one only comes out to lift heavy stuff.
