Well I found a local logger to come in and drag the unit to the road..... about a half mile. It went really fast and he was careful to not destroy things along the way. Bobcat of Houston, North came out today and picked it up. Everything went very smooth and I am looking forward to getting it back into operating condition. My wife checked our home owners policy and we have a rider that covers off site contents and believe it or not....the Bobcat is covered! So lessons learned.... HAVE A FIRE BOTTLE ON BOARD!!!!! Mount a shovel on the unit Clear leaves and pine needles from under the cab at every fuel time Have a air compressor to blow out engine compartment at least twice a day Can't wait to get it back and get back to work. Thanks to all who gave their input!

WOW i'm glad your insurance covered it! I never would have thought it would be but great news that it is.
Hopefully it will come back in better shape that it has ever been.
Keep us posted.

I'm not too sure I would want a machine that caught fire. There might be some underlying issues that may come up later. I hope they get it fixed right for you.

As it will be done by the dealer, i'd suspect it would all be done *rite* and may even have warranty on the new parts?

Yes indeed!!! All work and parts will carry a warranty! I suspect that Bobcat of Houston might have a fair understanding of how to get my Bobcat T-250 back into shape.....

what are your doing with the machine to have it catch fire? Mulching brush? you must keep all small combustible material away from the engine compartment. How did bobcat of Houston do on the repairs? was it timely done? there should be at least a 90 day warranty on parts and labor if done at the dealer.

YUP mulching brush etc.... I have 34 acres with about 1800 trees per acre and need to get that down to less than 500..... They got me the estimate today...... just under $11,000.00.... it seems like Iwas VERY close to a fuel tank melt down !!!!! I went over and looked around it in their shop...... MAN what a mess!!!!... lots of heat damage to wire harness.... the outsides of most of the cables are brittle....so I'm having them replaced..... They might be a bit high on price but it looks likethe engine compartment will be nearly new...... They will start the re-build in the morning 01/16/09...... time will tell

It doesn't take much heat to kill the wiring, my 751 got so hot on the right hand side that the paint on the chassis peeled off on the outside. The fuel tank survived! but ALL the wiring was toast. The harness is really spendy, my 751 for the full harness would have come close to 2k if i didn't get hold of the engine one 2nd hand. Your T-250 would be even more i'd bet. Radiators go pretty easy too!
