The right side of my E26 hasn't seemed 100% since I bought it 180 hours ago. Yesterday, the right track stopped working. If I lift the right side, I can rotate the track by standing on the idler. If I lift the left side, I cannot rotate the track. Do I need a new final drive ie. Travel motor? Thanks!

I personally would start by draining the oil from the final drive (gear oil 80-90w)

Use clear container, check for metal sometimes using a magnet

If everything checks out good and you don't see any shiny metals, I would check the relief valves next

The final drive motor could also be bad internally, you could check the main filters for metal also

I would also recommend doing a pressure test to the motor but would follow these above steps first especially considering most people here do not own a hydraulic guage or test fittings

This was a machine I was working on 2 weeks ago with a bad final drive motor
You have to flush the tank out and replace the filters

Thank you for your reply. I replaced the final drive with an aftermarket from finaldrivemotors.com. $1450. Vague instructions came with it but customer service was great. It is a bit slower than the original but got me back in service. I am trying to have the original drive motor rebuilt but so far have been unsuccessful in finding someone to do it. Any suggestions?

Oh, also I'm pretty sure that the needle bearing in the drive motor went bad, separating the drive gears. I've experienced similar in my old MG when losing the layshaft. The seal was intact between the hydraulic drive and gearbox, so no contamination of the hydraulic system.

Sorry for the late reply

My suggestion would be to disassemble the drive motor first to inspect for major damage, the last 6 drive motors I replace could not be rebuilt due to housing ware damage too much material was lost

I can help you if needed just private message me

It is very rare that only the gears on the planetary go bad but once in a blue moon you luck out. I've only lucked out once before, homeowner with very low hours and he never changed the oil for 6 years
