The difficult part of removal for me is that last bolt on the bottom near the engine. I can't see it and can't seem to get an extension on it without several swear words and about 90 minutes. I have decided it's much easier to disassemble the starter while on the engine. Remove the 2 bolts 3/8 wrench that hold the end cap on and the small one 5/16 wrench that connects the power strap from the starter to the solenoid. Then the 2 solenoid bolts 3/8 wrench. After that you can pull the everything out and just leave the nose connected to the mounting plate. After that that last bolt is a piece of cake. (I assume you would have already disconnected the battery and battery cable. If not do that first.)

Install: Get three 3/8-24tpi wheel studs for a Polaris Sportsman Ranger. They should be about 1.25 - 1.5" long. Don't get the longer ones as they will cause clearance issues with the starter case. Press them into the mounting plate then you can just hang the starter while you pop the nuts on.
Hope this helps someone.
