T870 poor quality and bad service

We recently bought a T870 in the UK. We thought that Bobcat was an international machine of good repute, but have found the machine nothing but trouble. The glass door smashed 4 times , bobcat refused to replace it. We had to work in very dusty conditions: BAD! The track motor went US. BOBCAT dealer had no spare, BOBCAT had no spare anywhere in the world. It took nearly three months for them to obtain a new track motor. Surprise, surprise the motor was made in Scotland but the manufacturer refused to supply us and sent it to the US only for it to take ages for it to come back to the UK. We wondered if any other users have had similar problems. We see that some suppliers in the US sell replacements which they guarantee not to smash. Presumably it is a weak point. Ours was a brand new machine. We cannot afford this sort of performance as we are contractors with a time problem. Can anybody help, the manufactures rep is no use to us. Jack Caley

Sorry to hear about your troubles with your machine. When you pay that much for a product, you would hope that you would be paying for customer service to match.

What caused the window to break? I know a few people who have by passed the door switch and lifted the arms with door open. Our t190 has had a lot of debris from brush chopper bounce off with out breaking. We have been lucky that we have excellent dealer support.

I'm curious as to how the other doors broke too, there is no reason why it should break under normal operation.

Cab doors break because of operator abuse, plain and simple, not a warranty item. Should probably look at a lexon special application door. As for the drive motor, I know there was an issue last year with motors from the supplier. Bolts were not tight and they would blow apart. Brand new replacement did the exact thing. I don't know the scale of the issue, but I could see it knocking on hand inventory down to nothing. No idea how bobcats dealer support is in the UK. Hope it's not as bad as the terrible excuse JCB has in the US.

BCD correct as to door breakage. as to bobcact co support. I think big brother does monotior this site (how could they not) real guys talking real problems. as in what are they sayining about our equipment. so the button may have already been pushed. typically local dealer is business partner. bad word of mouth grows into rumors and innedueos. on both sides. there is a chain of command. if unsatsifed there are steps you can take. but it is best if you adhere to chain of command. as in talk to shop lead. this will get you further than anything. he knows what buttons to push. sometimes the big wigs can overcomplicate a minor issue. the guys with boots on the ground. can steer thru this without the he said she said B/S . make friends with svc dept. its a fact of life if they know you you know them. open line of communactition. without the B/S.

The door windows just broke as the Bobcat was being driven , often as it hit hard surface on leaving soft. Just broke no explanation, it did it with different operators, so it was not the fault of one careless operator. We are curious to know why there is an advert for windows that do not break in the Us if it is not a problem. They were unable to supply any more windows as they had run out of stock in the UK. Also with regard to the track motor, we cannot afford to buy a machine which cannot be repaired in less than three months, warranty or not. I am trying to get through to customer services in the US but with little luck. I think they are aware of this, but like big organisations, they are covering themselves with the small print. We are also machinery dealers ourselves, if we carried on like this we would have no reputation left. Jack Caley

The unbreakable Windows are for use with forestry mulcher and other implements where objects are thrown.

...and you'd better be sitting down when you see the price on the unbreakable Lexan windows. The door I bought for my machine had one that was scarred up. I thought about getting a new window until I saw the price.

We are just being served papers to go to court. We are also machinery dealers ourselves, I am surprised at Bobcat in allowing this to go to court, bad publicity, but we intend to attract as much publicity as possible. It takes years to get a good name and five minutes to lose it, Jack Caley

Do keep us informed as to how you go.
I'd also like to think that this treatment is just your dealer and does not reflect on all the other dealers out there.
