Only been a member here for a few months but I really enjoy reading this forum. Lately it seems that the activity is slow over the last week or so. Is this cause its springtime and the guys get busy with jobs? Is this normal or is it just me?

With the recession and it being spring break up in Western Canadian oilfield, I am bored and reading the forum daily has helped me kill part of the work day and lately there seems less and less new stuff to read.

I take the forum being slow as people are busy(work, spring cleaning and mowing) and their machines are running trouble free. This time of year with all the rain I can't keep up with mowing. Of course it would help if I didn't mow 10 acres of grass.

I noticed that too, its a bit slow around these parts (the forum) but thats a good thing. No posts = no problems.

Coreya how long is your spring breakup? Do you get like a month or two off a year? I thought about running away once and look for work up there. Man would the wife be surprised.

Has been too wet to do anything for us. We have only had a day, maybe two inbetween rain.

Break up lasts typically mid to late March into late may early June. Oilfield "breakup" as we call it is waiting for the frost to leave the ground and road bans to be lifted so the poor oil companies dont have to move rigs in extra loads due to weight restrictions. I work in the office now so I still go to work every day which really sucks when there is nothing to do. Although a lot of folks are in worse situations, i should really not complain I suppose.

I been into heavy equipment and construction for 33 years now and this time of the year has always been the busiest , but not this year , this is the worst I have ever seen it , the only thing keeping us going is a little work from the hurrricane , have seen more people get out the business and machines up for sale then ever before , I think it is going to get a lot worst , it is only a few contractors that are really busy and it is that they are politically connected , as most of you know it's not what you know but who you know , which is the way it is around these parts , all you can do is hope for the best and hang in there , after evry body gets out and it comes back around those that have hung on should be in good postion

I've been as busy as ever in the past 2 months. With about 60 acres of mowing every week and landscape jobs piling up, I'm lucky to get to sleep. Gotta make hay when the sun shines.
