from MY experience and I am no expert, but sharing what I found over the yrs,
from brand to brand, model to model, some of the quick attack set ups on skid steers is different, some are wider, , more narrow and yes some are longer/taller or shorter, ! there is no 100% exact measurement spec on things,
the SO called universal size on many implements c is just a design, made to fit MOST machines, from my experience!
its always best to ask for measurements before buying and checking that they will fit yours
they again design most implements with the hopes of fitting MOST machines, and do so many times buy building things taller or wider, to allow for differences in brands/models
Most times however things still work, but just have some slop in things, but tighten up when a load is applied to things from leverage or?? but they tend to still work with some slop in things
I know my older NH skid steer, almost every implement I have tried, fits loose, and on some it would even pull off when under a load/or angle or?/ pending how implement was being used(the stuiff arm back hoe attachment I have like to come off under light load, so, I welded some plate on to make it fit tighter, and solved that and was a cheap fast fix, but now may now work on other machines as IS, only a issue if I get a new machine or want to sell it some day, but I can also always cut the added plates off too or buyer could if needed!
so this also means that when buying USED implements, it is very possible to get one that was modified, or NEW was made more for a different make mode, or specs or different sizes, l than you have, or just was made using spec's they felt would work on MOST machines
another example for you,
the Forks I bought new, fit my machine loosely when I got it, (on the up and down side of things) my next door neighbor wanted to borrow them for his Bobcat 743or 753 forget exact model, but the set up on his skid steer was about 4 inches wider than the set up on the forks,
it was then impossible for him to even get his quick attach into the plate for it, due to it wasn't wide enough, (not even close)
the forks again new, came this way, and were supposed to be Universal quick attach set up!
but there was NO way he could use them with modifying them and it would have needed a lot of mods, as the whole frame on them, was going to have to be widened! so on these, it was not a simple fix for him , like it was for me,
I just added again some plate to shorten the distance from top to bottom
so there NOT always a quick fix if you do buy based on measurements of implement quick attach!
again, I always now ask for them before buying anything!
some other info for you, if you care to know, , on very older skid steers (I think mostly NH brand ones) they had a totally different set up/design,, which they now sell conversion kits to the more standard size set up, it was way smaller and all together different though! they DO make and sell some implements yet for them, but there not common or popular and most sellers, specify the set up as being different and for the older design!
SO< yes, NO all quick attaches are of the same spec/size! universal is a grey area at times! ,
LASTLY
I will add this too, as you gave a measurement of how far things are off on your bucket
8 inches
8 inches is NOT even in the ball park and way past specs of every brand I know of.
when I mention some are off a little, most up down difference I ever seen was maybe an inch or hair more
side to side, was about 4-5 inches however!
so 8 inches off is not even close! and seems like something else is wrong here.
are you sure the bucket you got is not for a front end loader for a tractor or likes, and NOT a skid steer set up?
some may look like the same set up, but are for different machines!
as 8 inches taller is way
