What is the difference between the 2. Considering trading to one of them if I ever get my JD sorted out. thanks

To the best of my knowledge, the L series does not have auxilary hydraulics. Which I guess for a percentage of loaders that work somewhere where they will never need them, and it helps keep the price down not have the 3rd valve as standard equipment.
Thats not where I'd try to save a few hundred though. It drastically limits the versatillity of the loader.
