Newbie here... first post. Have an older 7753 (Melroe) that we have been going through, repairing and replaceing everything that needs attention. When it was running, the hydraulics felt like they were skipping while turning the unit hard, 1 side going forward, 1 backward. It felt almost as if the chain was skipping over a sprocket tooth, but not quite as harsh or as big a skip. Gearbox has been opened and all gears and sprockets look undamaged, almost look brand new. Chains are also tight. This leads me to believe it might be something in the hydrauloic motors, but I'm no hydraulic motor guy. Anyone have any sugestions or ideas where to look for a problem?

It sounds lik you have air in your hydraulic system. If you have changed the oil or added oil after it was low, it sometimes takes a bit of running to bleed the air out. Run it around easy raising and lowering the boom a few times to circulate the oil.
It also helps to let it set for a couple hours after a short run. that lets the air bubbles in the tank tim to float out. Is the hydraulic oil foamy? Mike
