Hi skidroe and thank you for the reply..I havent had the opp. to drive the machine its an ebay item but is close to my home. Yes im sure the problem is affecting the price but figured if its something i could fix might get a deal. When you say migrated to the pumps what does that mean..ive operated a few rented skidsteers but never owned one so its all a bit new to me. thanks, chillyHey chilly,
You may want to re-post this question in the Gehl section of the website to get a better answer, but here are my thoughts:
So long as the linkage problem has not migrated into the pumps, it should be a pretty easy fix. That said, you may want to price the parts from the dealer just as a back up, in case you run into something you can't fix / fab yourself.
Seeing as your funds are limited, I take it this linkage problem is affecting the over all price of the machine? Are you 100% sure that there are no other issues with it? Can you at least drive it in it's current state to assess whether there are engine or hydraulic issues? Do you know the previous owner and the service history of the machine?

There are two pumps in the machine that drive the wheel motors, one for each side. The steering lever linkage is typically attached to a shaft on the pump that actuates the swash plate within the pump, controlling forward, reverse and the speed of the machine. There is typically a lever keyed to the swash plate shaft. If this lever has become loose on the shaft and damaged the shaft, you may be repairing the pump (or pumps). This is not the end of the world, but it is on the more expensive / complicated end of this type of repair.Hi skidroe and thank you for the reply..I havent had the opp. to drive the machine its an ebay item but is close to my home.
