Everything works; bucket works like it should; steers like it should; but lift boom will not go up or down. It does have axillary hydraulics. When I move the boom peddle, the bucket moves just a little bit. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Sounds like it could be a safety device kicking in, like a seat or seat bar sensor. When they detect you are not in the cab they lock the hydraulics out.

thanks for info. seat switch checked out ok.

It acts the same for either foot pedal?
Can you hear the engine struggle or work while doing this? or does it not make any noise?

ken, the bucket pedal works fine also moves fine but lift boom does not lift up or down. Sounds like safety switch is engaged. But when I unhook seat belt bucket will not move like it should. Does seat switch control both? Boom and bucket?

The safety switch would lock both the boom and bucket. So the pedals go back and forth as usual, but nothing moves. does the motor labour when you push the pedals any of the 4 ways? It sound the same all 4 ways? My 160 the pedals are physically locked and wont move to prevent acidental movement when the seat belt is unbuckled. I'm wondering if you have something more like the Bobcat bics system that blocks the flow of the hydraulics. (an electric controled hydraulic valve) Sorry not familiar with you model.

What about the seat BELT switch? They go bad and are EXPENSIVE to replace.
How about the RUN/SERVICE switch--is it the RUN position?
The safety system electrically may be working but the mechanical part may be siezed or broken. If I recall correctly all New Hollands have a conrol valve that uses a solenoid that has about a 3/4" long x 1/8" dia. pin inside. When the solenoid is energized the pin retracts and allows the control valve to function. If it is bad or the pin is broken from someone really stepping hard on the locked pedal, it breaks off in the control valve spool. It's easy to find--look for two wires on the valve. Unscrew the solenoid and the pin should come out with it. If it doesn't look down inside the control valve spool and you can see it there. My dealer's mechainic showed me mine, and he siad that in an emergency the solenoid can be removed and a regular pipe plug (1/2" or 3/4" --not sure) can be used to prevent the fluid from shooting out once you run it. It's not wise to run without the solenoid for safety reasons.
And I'll say it again---check the diodes in the engine bay's fuse box. They are black and rubberish and look like an "innocent" 2-wire trailer hitch electrical connector. They're $20 from the dealer. But I reworked mine for a mere 50 cents with a new diode from Radio Shack---part number 276-103 and some holt melt glue as a sealer. And when mine lows the fuel pump fuse tends to blow too.
Check ALL your fuses for dirt and corrosion too. Replace them if they are the least bit dirty or corroded. I keep half a small ziplock sandwich bag with fuses in the machine and extra home-reworked diodes.

Ken thanks for the info traced wires down from key switch to the seat switch to the seat belt switch to the control valve solenoid. Right at the solenoid I found a skinned wire shorting out preventing the boom from rising and lowering. Thanks for putting me on the right track. I am new to skid steers so your help is appreciated. Thanks Charlie

I have the same model new holland.... Where is the fuse box in the engine compartment? What ever is supplying power to the hydraulic solenoid valves isn't doing its job. I used a probe and sent power to bucket soleniod and bucket is working fine with probe. If anyone can tell me where to find the fuse box i would greatly appreciate it. I feel like a moron asking where the fuse box is.... I'm an auto mechanic! Go figure!
