mustang 440 skid steer gas

just picked up a 77 mustang 440 and have some questions if anyone can help. any ideas where to find parts? I've got all the manuals; did an oil change and the manual says engine takes 3.5 quarts and I had to put 4.5 quarts in until the dipstick read full. I'm not sure if the dipstick is the right one, anyone know how long its supposed to be and where I might be able to find a replacement? When it starts cold, oil pressure gauge says 40psi, once at operating temp it goes down to about 10psi is this normal or too low? do I need a new pump? Lastly, it has a ping at about half throttle, is this timing or do I have to worry about blowing a rod? Overall the machine starts and runs good besides these issues. Thanks Jason

The oil pressure sounds about rite to me, but i don't have a manual. You can always use slightly thicker oil if you believe it may be a little too low.
The ping, i assume a petrol engine? if so, tried different fuel? even change out the plugs/leads condenser. Even check the point gap.
It's hard to know if it's a detonation ping or a worn rod bearing without hearing it.
