M700 25 micron filter

Guys, How do you get this filter out with out sliding the engine back? I see it just fine through the hole in he bottom, but can not for the life of me get it to unscrew. I did a search and best I can tell no one says how to get a good hold on it to get it out. Dwight Iowa

Thank you Sir for that part. Mine is missing the cover so the hole is open all the time. I bought one of the nylon strap wrenches and that has not helped yet. I wonder what the "special filter wrench looks like. I tried the 10 micron filter and it really was only hand tight, I've got it loose now, jut need to get this big one off, then I'll be off to the parts store for new filters and oil. Again thanks for all the help, this forum is a wealth of knowledge. Dwight Iowa

The MEL-1192 filter wrench is just a metal band type that you can use a breaker bar with.


I think your filter is 5" in diameter so the KD Tools KDS232W or Lisle 53100 will work. Most real auto parts stores should carry one or the other. I just looked at the inventory of the CARQUEST in my small town and they had the Lisle in stock.

If you can get in there I haved used a chisle and taped it with a hammer on the top rim to knock it loose if real tight or if you want to make a mess drive a big screw driver all the way threw and twist

Thank you both for thin info. Our small town carquest is closed now and will not open till Monday. I've been out looking things over and lifted the Cab and removed the battery, the battery box was bolted in so now that is out too. Now I have more access to the filter. I've got it all bent up right now from of the techniques I've tried so far. I'm getting ready to try a version of the chisel technique, I'm going to put my strap wrench on the side and then get son to put a 2x4 end on the strap and whack the other end to see if we can get this thing off, You can bet I will use the hand tight only when I get the new on. I know how it is living near a small town. It used to be almost all the stores here closed at noon on Saturday and didn't reopen till Monday morning but it's getting better as some stores have learned people will drive the 30-50 extra miles to get what they need on a weekend these days.
I was able to check the local Carquest inventory online because I have an account there and in a emergency I can call the owner to get a part after hours if they have it in stock.
Hopefully you have the filter off by now. Here is the cross reference to Baldwin filters. You can normally cross the Baldwin numbers to whatever brand is available easier than you can the Bobcat numbers.

OldMachinist, Nope the filter is still in place, that bugger is on there really good. I've got it so mangled up there is no way I would start it. Son came and help with my strap wrench on with all the torque I could twist in it, He held the 2 X 4 on the side and gave it several whacks with the framing hammer nad it just slid the strap around the filter. While he was here we started putting some ATF and Acetone around the seal edge to try to penetrate to the seal. I'm assuming it is a center thread like a regular spin-on oil filter for a car. My neighbor is getting a different strap wrench from the place he works tomorrow, I'm about ready to go with the chisel option. Also may get the tractor out and use the front end loader to lift off the roll cage so I can get up on it. All in all a very good learning experience. Dwight Iowa

With the chisle you put it at a 90 degree on the rim and tap it off not driving in between works great becareful not to ding up the houseing

I'm going to have to find a long handled chisel if need be, I can reach in from the top and get a hold of the filter, but going to be hard to hit due to all the hard lines around it. If I can get a good picture, I'll put it up this evening.. Dwight Iowa

It looks just like an oversized oil filter, 5 inches across. Here's what the mounting side looks like.
Grabbing it as close to the seam with a chain wrench would probably be the best way to get a really stuck one off. The center thread is about an inch and a half, not sure if the pipe nipple will come out with the filter, I've seen it happen on some oil filters so be aware of that and anything that might be behind it. More likely it's just a stuck rubber gasket that didn't get oiled when installed.
