This M500 that I am trying to undue all of the redneck engineering has a couple of pipes coming off the bottom of the chain drive enclosures. (Picture below) One is capped and the other is wide open. This was discovered after pulling the engine. The manuals are difficult for me to follow. I cannot figure out how this was originally configured. It appears that it was supposed to be a crossover pipe joining the two sides. If that is true, how was it connected? Was it a pipe union or hose? I have no idea if the machine was operated this way, but I would assume that the current configuration would either hemorrhage fluid or the right side was running without lube. Can anyone help explain what I am seeing?

Thanks. That must have held a lot of fuel. A previous owner mounted a one gallon tank above the engine behind the driver. Is there a crossover for the hydraulic fluid as well? I have not removed the plate under the pedals, so maybe I will figure it out then.
