Just purchased an LX885 at an auction in pretty good condition. Problem is the left drive is unresponsive. Right drive moves the machine forward and reverse but left drive does nothing.. and I mean nothing. Pump lever moves with the steering lever. No load at all on the motor. Chains all good but there is water in the chain case Looking for a way to check the pump without spending several hundred for a manual. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. New member.

Remove the two large hoses from the left hydro pump. Get two caps to fit the fittings on the pump. They are JIC style and I believe size 12. Cap the fittings on the pump. Start the engine and slowly stroke the left lever. If the engine pulls down then the pump is working. The pump is protected by relief valves.

Thanks. Will do.

Capped the pump outlets and it definitely loads the engine when the lever is moved. BTW, Aux hydraulics also loads and right side works fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
That leaves only two possibilities, either the hydro motor is bad or there is a problem in the gearbox the hydro motor attaches to. There really is no way to check which it may be without removing the hydro motor from the gearbox.

Ahhhh yess... was afraid of that. Any tips or secrets that might save me tons of time/effort before I get started (besides hiring someone else to do it)? I've got a good hydraulics guy for a rebuild, but I've never tackled the removal before. Thanks Mike.
