MY LX665 WILL ONLY RUN BOUT 5min or less before it shuts off, will restart but the gauge light that has a gear with arrows pointing at both sides and a drop in the center flashes along with the stop light. what does this light mean? was thinking gear oil level in the final drive>

As it shuts down, i'd suspect low engine oil pressure? or hydraulic oil charge pressure.
I don't know if there are oil level sensors in the final drive or not....

My '05 LS185.b book shows the lamp is for the "charge pressure warning" for no or low oil pressure in the hydro pump(s). It says do not run the machine if the lamp comes on. That said, I'd look for a bad charge pressure sensor and/or electrical connector. Could you be using the wrong weight of hydraulic fluid? My machine says to use 10W-30 motor oil..

thanks for the info. figured it might have something to do with the hydro sys. it only haqs bout 800 hrs on it so as far as i know its the factory hydro fluid. could the filter b clogged up? do u know the capacity? any body know how to test the sensor?

My Lx865 hydraulic system holds 6.5 gallons. Your fluid capacity should be similar.
The filter has a seperate sensor that lets you know when its dirty. That sensor doesnt shut the engine down
Ken said you can use air preessure with a regulator. I believe its just an on/off pressure switch. The charge is suppose to be between 250 to 300psi. The Engine needs to be at 2225 to 2275 rpm's during the test.
The book says to check the charge pressure ;;; Remove the hose that holds the sensor and install a T fitting . Then put a gauge on one port and the pressure sensor in the other.
There arent any instructions on testing the sensor. Thats probably in the electrical manual.

man u guys r a life saver thanks so much. anyway my machine doesnt have a sender at the end of a small hydro hose, instead it has a sender/sensor switch on the hose coming out of the hydro filter main body. i figure this is the hydro charge pressure switch. there is also a sender/switch on the filter main body. which i reckon is to tell you when filter is dirty. ok now once i pulled the right hand engine cover off, i noticed that on the end of the pressure sender/switch there was a rubber plug that was popped almost all the way off and fluid was running out. i grabbed my handy dandy pen and discovered a allen head screw in the top/end of the sender. the sender says N/C by the wir5e terminals so its evident5ly a normally closed switch. my next ? is being as there was fluid coming out of the sender where yhe allen head screw is then a seal of some sort has blown or malfunctioed somehow. any ideas

If its leaking its pooched. get a new one, they are like 25.00 for a bobcat.

Im sure your leaking sendor/sensor is the problem. I believe thats the charge pressure switch. It would be connected to the left side hydrostatic pump with a hose ,and has 2 wires.
The one by the filter may be hydraulic oil temp. and the other is for the clogged/dirty filter.
As long as you take the leaking sensor to the parts guys you will get the right one.
The charge pressure doesnt tie in thru the cooler directly. It pre pressurizes the hydrostatic pumps. The cooler and the filter are on the return trip to the oil tank.
I have a different machine so your plumbing could be routed different. I would just replace that leaking unit as ken suggests. I dont mean to confuse anything. Mike

ok fellas removed switch and installed a press gauge. thi is the switch on the bottom (output )side of the filter maain housing. at 2280 rpms im gettin 145psi. am i checking the right spot. i really need a service manual but the cheapest i have found is 275$. when i unhooked this switch i noticed it stays running and nothing lights up telling me to stop. also talked to the original owner who happens to be a close friend of mine and i asked him if he ever changed the hydro fluid. he said no but it did blow a main hose once, which drained most of the system . and they put regular old hydro fluid like for a tractor, back in it . i guess they didnt know any different. im guessing it was 32w or close to that maybe a universal type fluid. would this b the root of the problem? the machine has always "whined" so to speak. if so what do i do to correct the problem. im going to try and change the fluid although im not quite sure where the drain is for the hydro tank. is there a chance that one of u guys could maybe e-mail me a copy of the hydro section of the service manual. im on a tight budget so buying one is out of the question. can it b downloaded from a particular site?

What kind of outside temperatures are you using the machine? Cold temps wreak havoc on hydraulics that aren't warmed up.
Usually the noisey pumps is an induication it's on its way out--maybe not soon but...pretty sure the noise you hear is the individual pistons on the pump that are about the size of a baby finger---they're slapping around against the swash plate causing vibration and noise. The charge pump keeps constant pressure against the pistons so they don't rattle. If the charge pump pressure goes down you lose pressure building ability. Eventually you won't go anywhere. My buddy has a Lx 665 that has been doing this for years. But you never know when it's going to give out.
The drain for the hydraulic reservoir at least on mine is a black, plugged hydraulic line runing from under the reservoir and back to the radiator along the battery case. Not sure it runs out the back past the radiator (it is not close by me). My New Hollands say to use regular 10W-30 motor oil. Though I have used regular hydraulic fluid made for tractors--probably not the stuff you referred to as this is fairly thin like motor oil and the same color. The reason they say to use motor oil is it has anti-foaming and anti-corrosion inhibitors in it.

That price of $275 is for a full set of 6 service manuals. Call 1-800-635-4913. They will ask your serial no. and what model . You can buy the seperate manuals. . Operators manual, hydrostatic system and steering system , hydraulic system , Engine, electrical , and I think final drive.
The manuals are well written and show in detail step by step instructions. I think you need the hydrostatic {system and steering system} and {hydraulic system}manuals. The {owners manual } has all the dash lights and a lot of general info . Great manual. I think the owners manual is $60 and the other two are about 30 to 35 each. You get a better deal getting the whole set. And save on shipping. These are the same manuals the mechanics at the dealer use.
It you removed the switch and it stayed running I would replace that switch. Your charge pressure sendor would be under the seat conected to the pumps directly.
I think you have found the right leaking switch. Your filter and oil cooler are on the return trip to the tank and wouldnt carry the same pressure as the charge pressure.I cant find what the pressure should be at the ftlter housing.
When you said you removed the right engine cover and found a leaking sendor I was thinking you found the charge pressure sendor. on my lx865 its under the engine compartment fuse box. on the end of a short small hyd. hose with two wires attached.
If the leaking sendor is the one on the filter housing and disconecting it keeps it running without warning lights I would replace it and not worry about pressure. The system should warn you if its not right.
I hope this makes sence. I dont think you are dealing with a charge pressure problem. But doesnt explain why the machine shut down. I do have a larger model but the put them together very similar.
They all whyn especially at low rpms and low speeds. Mike

Ilke earthwerks says I think you are suppose to use 10w30 in the hydraulic system. His suggestion to check for a clogged hose is good. The line he describes along the battery box to the cooler is the return line to the tank. I would check the hose that comes out the side of the tank and goes to the left hydrostatic pump.Thats what could effect the charge pressure. If its clogged.

you can dowload the full manual for about $30 at www.tradebit.com just click on buy and type in your model into the search window. i downloaded the entire manual to my computer in about 5-10 minutes.

Hey FSpring, what would you think about sending me a copy of your manual to the lx665? I'd be glad to pay you if you like for it. I need to change the hyd fluid on mine cause it's got R&O Hyd Fluid in it but I don't even know how to drain it. Thanks! Ian

The simplest way to drain the reservoir tank is to go to the farm store and get a cheap hand operated pump. Pull the screws out of the filler cap neck, remove it and drop a hose in, then pump the fluid out manually.
