lx 485 hdy. problem

hello all ! I need some help with a lx 485. it runs fine, idles fine runs wide open fine. if you try to move forward or back or raise the bucket the engine falls on its nose, dies. let off the hdy, and it goes back to running fine. I changed the fuel filter and put on a new fuel pump. any ideas are appreciated.

What has the weather temp been there? Do you have bio diesel in your state? I just found out we have 3% bio in MN even in the winter however Wisconsin has none so it varies state by state. Check your manual also I see the 160 is recommended for #1 fuel in cold weather so yours may be also.

hi jerry, cold isn't the problem. we use off road diesel and this problem has been happening since summer. after I changed the in-line filter and new fuel pump, drained the tank and put new fuel in it was good for about 2 hours now it is back to the same thing. It belongs to my neighbor and im going to go look at for him this afternoon and was trying to see if anyone had a fast answer before I went, or steer me in a general direction. im going to check the inline filter first and make sure it isn't plugged up again. but it sure sounds like a hdy issue to me. or electrical. maby the aux hdy valve stuck ? and its in a heated garage.

How are the hydo filters?........and some of the cheap inline filters have been known to leak and suck air

It does sound like a fuel issue as you say it dies when put under load.
A few things to check are that the fuel cap is not plugged, the filters are ok (you said they were changed). Air filter is not clogged. If it's turbo, that could be an issue too, but generally air or turbo would puff out black smoke.
If it has a bleeding setup, ensure it is not open as you may have low fuel pressure to the pump.

I believe I found the problem, the inline filter is plugged again. looks like some kind of shellac in it. never seen this before. same stuff was in it last time I changed the in line filter. last time I ran all the fuel out of the tank through the pick up line and dumped it. I took the bottom plate of and looked for a drain plug and couldn't find one so we just ran it out through the pick up line. I may try to find a sediment boul and put before the filter. do you have any idea about this stuff in the tank ? may it be some kind of tank coating ? I seen mold grow in diesel but nothing like this.... and is there some kind of drain plug I missed somewhere ???? thanks for your help guys !!!

There is no drain plug. I take out the fuel level sender and go down through the hole with a 3/16 tube with a shop towel attached to the end and wipe out the inside of the tank. I bend the tube 90 degrees in the middle so I can reach all the corners. You can probably use a heavy wire in place of the tube. Sounds like you have water in the tank.

I corrected the problem, the inline filter was plugged with crap again. we pumped out all the fuel and put new filters back on again. runs perfect now. still see some crap collecting in the filter again. I guess we will just keep changing filters when they get plugged. but now they are factory screen in line filters. I believe they will last longer than the paper filter that was on it. the paper held the debre in the line where the screen will allow it to drop off the screen to the bottom of the plastic case when its shut down allowing it to run longer I hope before the next change. and there was no water in the system.
