Since my machine is broken, I borrowed my friend's loader. The pedal that raises the boom gets stuck in the active position either going up or down. Any suggestions on where and what kind of lube to use. The owner of the machine has tried repeatedly to fix it. I would like to fix it for him as a favor for letting me borrow it.

You need to determine if the problem is with the pedal or the control vavle. Remove the panel that is between your legs when you are in the loader, eight bolts. This panel covers the control valve. After the panel is removed, find the linkage for that foot pedal that connects to the control valve. Preferably remove the pin at the control valve spool or if it is stuck remove the bolt at the other end of that link. Now move the pedal. It should move freely, if not find where it is binding and lubricate or disassemble. If the pedal and linkage is free than the problem is in the control valve. You can try and spray some lubricant on the portion of the spool that is exposed and work it back and forth. If that does not free it up the control valve will need to be removed and the detent cap checked for binding. Ususally it is a linkage problem.

I disconnected the linkage and determined that the bearing that the pedal rotates on is sticking. Is there an easy way to remove it? It looks like the shaft has to be driven out and the space is very confined.

The pedals and supports are held in with four bolts each that you can see from the front of the machine. If you have the boom up stand back from the front of the machine and look at the vertical plate at the very front and you will see the bolts. There is also one bolt in each that is in the inside. The support for the pedals is a u shaped bracket around each pedal. On the side next to the valve look down right behind the pedal shaft and you should see a bolt that goes straight down. Remove these bolts. All that is left is the aux hyd control linkage. This linkage is used when you use your right control handle to control a devise through the couplers on the boom. Remove the pin from the rod and pull the rod out of the pivot bracket. Also on the pivot bracket you will see two bolts sticking straight up in the center. remove these two bolts. If you have the linkage removed from the control valve you can now lift the pedal assy's out to work on them.

Thank you, Mike10, for the detailed response. I would not have figured that out on my own. Are you a New Holland technician?
