Hi Guys,
a friend has an old L35 /wisconsin gas skidsteer that squeals pretty bad when turning but not so much going straight (hyd lift and bucket work good). He wants me to buy it ..all i would need it for is to start up and load salt, that would free up my current salt machine to push snow. Any idea how serious a problem it could be. He says that something is leaking pretty bad but he doesn't know exactly what. Second question...it states it's a high and low speed but we cant tell any difference when accutating the speed lever inside the cab?
Thanks,
steve

If it's leaking "pretty bad", who knows how long he's been operating it that way and if or how often he's run it low on fluid. That would be my concern. It would also concern me that he doesn't know where the leak is coming from. Given how accessible all the hydraulics are in these old machines, how hard could it be to find a major leak? I have the two speed setup also, and a cam follower and detent adjustment per the ops manual took care of getting that to function correctly. Finally, FWIW my L779 also howls loudly when turning (a common complaint I notice having read the various posts here on older NH machines) but noticeably less so when in low range. As you likely already know, the noise could also be a function of low fluid level and the sound of the pump(s) cavitating. Others who work on these machines regularly I'm sure know more, but as for "how serious it could be", it could be that you have junk for pumps and wheel motors and/or a transmission. I'm told that because the pumps and motors are put together as a unit, when either section fails, the other isn't far behind. Good luck!
