I bought an L185 with 700 hours on it. Its a 2006 with a 3 cylinder inveco engine. In doing an inspection noticed the injection pump had a small leak while running. It appeared to be from the cold start advance seal, so I got a new gasket and installed. At the same time I replaced the fuel filter on the machine. Once completed I mistakenly pumped the manual prime without cracking the bolt at the top of the injection pump open as indicated in the book. The pump made 5 or 6 good strokes, maybe more. I cranked it over and would not fire. After remembering about the bolt needing to be loosened, and loosening it, the manual pump will not take a full stroke. It actually feels pressure bound, the handle moves up and down but is very slack, only the last 2 cm feels like I am pumping anything. I cannot get anything out of the top bolt in the way of fuel. I get a small amount out if I loosen the bolts on the cold start advance piping that runs up, but the manual pump does not feel right. I have since taken the return line off the tank, will not bubble or return fuel. I took off the manual pump from the block and removed the lines, off it pumps fine. Would seem like I have bound something up in the injection pump. It cranks over fine, I even got it to fire up a time or two for 2 seconds, but dies, but that was after considerable pumping and messing about. I even cracked the lines at the injectors and cranked over for 15-20 seconds each cylinder, some fuel did come out, but not too much. Any help is appreciated.

The hand pump lever is probably on the high side of the cam shaft. Bump the engine over until the hand lever has some tension when pumping. You will still need to crack the injector lines to get it to start.

Should I see fuel coming into return line as I manually pump? Do I crack the lines at the injection pump or the injectors? I have a vacuum pump, any harm in suction on the lines, like the return line? Should I see fuel at the line at the top of the injection pump like it says in the book? I did try turning it over by hand without any difference in the feel of the handle. Is there any way I bound the injection pump with air when I pumped without the bolt cracked open? Any way to fully drain the injection pump?

Is there an electric fump pump on this model. If there is try priming with the key on.
