L-185 blown motor good or bad idea

So I came across a L-185 (2007) with a blown motor. 800 hours on the clock. Supposedly overheated by a young employee. Motor is still free just wont run. He is firm at 10k. I wouldn't mind a summer project, and could use a 2nd skid steer around here (2004 L170 right now) Any input?

Good low hours, the issue is the engine. If it has a NH engine, it will cost you a lot to repair/replace. Depending on your abilities and gear you could adapt a cheap Kubota to it.

Trying to get the serial number to see if it has the cheaper or NH engine. Messiks has rebuilt NH motors for 8600 before core return which is a fun number.

If the engine turns over and isn't locked up you should be able to have an independent shop rebuild it for way less than messicks reman engine price. Parts for these engine are expensive but you probably have the best case issue. If it still turns over chances are the crank will need ground in the worst case and maybe sleeve the block. $500-$600 for the machine work plus a rebuild kit. Hopefully the head isn't cracked. I would guess a good shop could get you fixed up for $5k or less.
