I want to hook up a hot water cab heater on my lx 665. I saw skidsteerca's photos and he mentioned on the 160 a port on the water pump and one on the thermo housing. I have those two ports but they have 5/8 heater type hose running down to a housing like thing where the engine oil filter screws on. What is the purpose of that and can I tap into those lines? Good thing I looked into it anyway cause one of the lines has been lying on a bolt up top and is almost worn through. thanks for any help in advance. jerry

after looking further at this I think the apparatus is to warm the oil in cold weather for the turbo lubrication. in the book they make a big point of not working the engine till the oil can flow freely to the turbo. So the non-turbo engines may not have this device on the oil filter base. I still need a source of hot water for the heater core though. anyone with a lx665 and a heater who can take a look and tell me where theirs is plumbed?

Its usually plumbed into the by-pass hose, i don't own a NH so i really don't know how their engines are setup.
With most machines they want you to warm them up before really working them when its cold outside. I remember my 743 book said to warm it up and even operate the aux hydraulics so it goes over the relief to warm the oil up faster. I can see this being important on a turbo machine.

thanks tazza, I looked into that and there is a convenient bypass hose I can divert for the heater. but I suppose I will have to put a bypass in somewhere for summertime. should I put some type of restrictor in this bypass to force the water to to the heater?

You don't really need a diverter, the only time heat will come out is when the fan is on, the heater core will stay hot, just like in a car.
