I’m at a loss. I purchased a 753 bobcat a few months ago. Now I have an overheating issue. It’s full of coolant. I’ve pulled the thermostat to see if might have been the issue. It’s not the issue. Water pump is working. What am I missing?

well how clean is the radiator on BOTH sides?
how OLD is the coolant, coolant does go bad, as well as can be at incorrect mixture!
just cause its full of coolant doesn't mean its good and working properly!

Coolant is less than a month old. 50/50 mix can’t get to underside of radiator that I can see. I could be missing something there !! But I did clean the top side as well as the oil cooler that’s on top.

It’s blowing air. If I stop and idle down the fans seem to be able to start cooling it off.

Oddly enough you imply the radiator is above the engine, and I am thinking you have visually inspected the fan, I don't remember where the fan gets it's air but I do remember seeing a fan partially blocked one time by a rag so it failed to move enough air.

Yes my radiator is above the engine. Oil spoiler is on top of the radiator as well. Thanks I’ll look into that as well

also, just wondering, but what are your oil temps showing(if you have that gauge for hem

as if the motor is actually running HOT< your cooling system might not be able to keep up

older machines can get funny issues that one thing effect the other causing you to look in wrong places
there might be an oil temp safety like switch that could shut down things when it gets to a certain temp

these switches can go bad in time or, could be working just right and shutting you down, I don;t know if your machine has one or not

be worth finding out maybe!

I don’t have oil temp gauge on it. Thanks for the info. I definitely will look for other causes as well. A work in progress when you buy a used machine and don’t know all the problems that it comes with. I’m also going to call the place I bought it from and see if they can send me any maintenance records they have for it. Again thanks for the ad

What are the indications of overheating? Does it shut off the engine (by stopping fuel)? I was working on a Perkins (I think) and had rebuilt it after it lay disassembled for a few years. It was starting and running great for a bit, then the temp switch was cutting it off. Got a new temp switch from NAPA with the correct (same) pn. It was still cutting off. Shop owner was 80+ and telling me what, what. I let the machine sit the weekend, started it up Monday with the sensor plugged in. 8-10 minutes it shut off. Alerted the owner, told him to watch this. Cranking, no start. Pulled the sensor wire off, cranked and started right up. Put wire back on, it died. For whatever reason we had to source the temp switch from the stump grinder company. I don't remember what brand it was, but you'd think the engine mfgr. would be the final word (part).

The temp gauge gets into the hot zone after about 45 minutes or so. When I shut it off you can hear it boiling pretty hard and the last time it was boiling out the overflow container.

Is the fan hydraulic or belt driven?
If belt could it be slipping?
If hydraulic does fan have a separate hydraulic filter?

Is the fan blade properly spaced/shrouded from the radiator? Is it a properly pulling/pushing blade orientation? You probably want the blade pulling thru the radiator first with the pushed air passing over the outside of the engine. Is there any missing shrouds or covers on the engine?

Not that I can see. It is missing a few caskets around like the door and radiator hood

Did you get around to flushing the radiator? Is there any backpressure in the exhaust? I don't know if diesels are sensitive to back pressure, but I know aircooled vw will overheat cruising on the interstate, and then cool while just idling at the curb while you look for the reason for overheating.

I’ve been at work away from home. Not had a chance to flush it yet. I’ll look into the back pressure when I get home. Thanks
