i am looking at making a fork lift mast on a axle, and then using a quick hitch on the back of the mast so when i pick up loads the weight goes on the mast wheels and doesn't lift the rear of bobcat up. my question is that i am only using one hydraulic hose as the ram on the mast is only single acting and uses weight to bring it back down, this means only one hydraulic plugged in yes it will go up but will it come down as there is no second hose, what will the valve bank do will it let off when i push thumb switch over to the other side even though there is nothing connected?? i have a 753. any thoughts cheers des

In theory, it should extend up normally, as the capped aux line would be the return. Going down, the capped line would be pressure, and it should trip the bypass while the cylinder retracted by gravity.
It shouldn't cause any lasting damage, but might be kind of nerve-wracking, depending on what kind of sounds of displeasure it makes.
Worst case, you can always shut it down, it'll come down just like the boom does under gravity.

The only issue i see is that i have found that the aux lines have pressure in them, even when the aux is not active.
The one way i can see around it is to add a third line to the tank, have a diverter valve to the line to the ram. So when you want to lower the mast, you allow the fluid to return to the tank via the extra line.
It could quite possibly work the way you hope it will, there will be a fair bit of weight with the forks alone.
Will be an interesting project, the wheels will make it so you can lift a lot more than you would with just a standard forklift attachment.
