How to remove Lx665 tapered pivot pin

I have an 1999 Lx665. One of the bucket cylinders is leaking. I have the service manual and I went through the entire removal procedure fine until the last step. The last step before it says to remove the cylinder says “Support the cylinder and, with a hammer, strike the cylinder at the base area to loosen the tapered pivot pin”. I did as the manual said and it did allow the tapered pin to come out a small amount.
The problem is the pin won't come out any more than that. I have moved the cylinder up and down and back and forth as I gently pried on it. I also took a socket about the size of the tapered pin and I tried to drive it out. The issue is that I don't want to damage the cylinder by prying against it , nor do I want to mushroom the tapered pin's end by hitting it hard with something. I reluctantly gave it a couple of good wacks but it didn't help, and hitting it any harder I believe would be pushing my luck. If you know how to get it out I'd sure appreciate the input.

I do not remove the cylinder when I rebuild one. Just unscrew the cap and pull apart. If you do remove the cylinder I would first loosen the large cap on the rod end before you remove the cylinder. They can be tight and hard to hold in a vice with the cylinder removed. You should be able to take a 3/4” shaft and drive the top pin out. There is a shoulder inside the boom so you need a pin small enough to go through the opening of the shoulder and contact the cylinder pin.
