grumbling fan

i have a 97 763. when the skid sits and idles the fan makes an annoying grumbling noise. has anyone heard of this and how do you fix this problem

Probably your bearing is going bad in the fan gearbox. The seal under the fan often fails, and moisture eats the bearing. Sometimes the oil leaks out of the fan gearbox and it runs dry. Take the belt off and rotate the pulley by hand. Any resistance or noise you should pull the fan gearbox out.

Yes, lift the cab, you should be able to flick the belt off and give it a spin.

Also check for gear oil in the gearbox while you are there.

Maybe try some wd40... It seems to fix any minor squeeking issue.
