My fuel shutoff solonoid has been sticking all week , my skid steer runs after I help it a little with a screwdriver, plan to have it replaced, but I was told in the mean time I could bungee it to help it stay on till I did and it wouldnt hurt anything. Is this true and, if so, what is the purpose of it anyway? Ihave an 87 John Deere 575 skid steer if it matters. Thanks for any help in advance

Holding it in place will keep it running, it sounds like the pull coul may not be working. You may even have junk stuck in it making it bind up.
The problem with by-passing it is if you get in trouble and need to shut it down, you can't. Thats the only safety issue you have.
