Pulled my tank on my 89' 743 to dump old fuel and clean as it sat for 3years. Machine has 2097 hrs (bought from orignal owner). What I found in tank was 2 inches of the end of the pickup line with the brass strainer attached (plastic pickup line cracked and seperated). The strainer had a hole in it that looked like it was rubbed through. Good thing I checked the tank. I crimped the end of strainer to close hole and installed a new renforced rubber line. Just thought I'd let people know they might want to check there pickup lines and strainers on 20 yr old machines with plastic lines.

It doesn't take 20 years for the tube to desinergrate , I know I must have changed a hundred of them over the last 20 plus years of dealing with Bobcats , the dealer here doesn't even suggest using the soft plastic or the screen anymore , they sell a hard black plastic tube to take it's place with a screen on it

Interesting how different dealers do different things. I changed my fuel lift pump a few weeks ago and thought while I was at it I would change all the fuel lines and put in a new pick up tube since I had read on here about the new ones being hard and straight, and dealers didn't use the screen anymore. When it arrived from KC Bobcat, it was the same floppy, clear tube that I had taken out and also had the screen in the bag. LMAO That was a hard thing to get to for a guy with short arms!

I just did mine for a plugged pickup strainer on a 773G, hardest part was finding it! Hose goes back and disappears under the pumps. Turns out is is just in front of the pump, behind the chain case.
I removed the fuel fill vent hose, (attaches just to the operators right & front of the fuel suction) to access is. Follow the fill vent hose to it, much easier on this model.
I just cleaned the strainer, line looked good and I did not have another on hand. The line going under the pumps from the 90 degree suction elbow was nearly worn threw though. Had to sorten it 1"

I am having the same problem on 2 763's how do I get to the end of the pickup line at the tank? I flip up the cab and have my Dad wiggle the line but can see nothing moving. How do I get to it?????

You have to 'feel around' between the engine and pump set from under the cab. There are 2 lines, one is the return.

So this this repair needs to be done by touch? You cannot see the the top of the tan where the hoses are?
If you are flexible enough maybe you can see it....or with a mirror.....I have changed plenty of them and everything goes together pretty easy, even not seeing, if you usa a new rubber grommett.

I found it directly under the center of the Hydrolic pump. Once I found it I could get to where I could see it. Thanks for the info. it did help a bunch. The hose line on the inside of the tank has broken off thats why I am not getting any fuel. It looks really hard to pull the tank and clean out? and I assume there is a filter or screen of some kind that was at the end of the hose?

Pulling the tank means you need to remove the engine and pump. There should be a filter screen on the end, but i have instanned new hoses before without the screen. Thats why it has a main fuel filter before the pump, it gets out anything that the screen misses anyway. As long as there aren't huge chunks of junk in the tank, its not an issue.

My only concern was the tube and screen broke off in the tank. But the worst they could do is partially block the pickup line in the tank. Not likely

I've never seen a problem caused by leaving the parts that fell off in the tank. But as I think about it, you may be able to fish them out through the opening where the filler hose attaches, using a claw type retriever tool...if you are really concerned.
