I have a Mustang 2040 I am trying to start. I am not seeing the black smoke I would expect while cranking it. I am getting fuel into the fuel nozzles. My service manual says that if I see white smoke that quickly disipates, it could be water in the fuel, or water in the combustion well. I have completely drained the old fuel and replaced all the fuel lines. I used fresh diesel, so I think we can remove that side of possibilities. How do you check for water in the combustion well and how do you get rid of it in a Yanmar engine (model 4TN84E)? Any help is greatly appreciated. Ken

When was the last time this engine ran? If it hasn't ran in a while, shoot a couple of squirts of fresh engine oil from an oil can into the cylinders through the injector holes, and crank it over 3-4 times with the injectors out. This will lubricate your rings and cylinder walls, and also help your compression. You can then re-install your injectors, and try starting it again.
